CGPA to Percentage Converter (all Indian rules)

There is no single official formula. Your university's rule can change the answer by 10+ points, so we show every common rule together. Use the one printed on your marksheet or in your university's ordinance.

Rules and formula last checked on 10 October 2026.

Not sure? The table below shows which universities each rule is often cited for.

How it's calculated

  • Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
  • Percentage = CGPA × 10
  • Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10
  • Percentage = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10
  • Percentage = 7.1 × CGPA + 11

Worked example

8.0 CGPA = 76% (×9.5), 80% (×10), 72.5% ((CGPA−0.75)×10), 67.8% (Mumbai).

Assumptions and limits

  • 10-point grading scale.
  • Results are capped to the 0–100% range.
  • 'Often cited for' labels come from secondary sources that sometimes disagree; they are not official confirmations.

Common questions

Where does ×9.5 come from?

CBSE derived 9.5 as the average percentage of students scoring A1 grades, and many institutions adopted it. It is a convention, not a law.

Which rule should I use for a job application?

The one your university states. If the form specifies its own formula, use that. If unsure, ask your exam section for a conversion certificate.
